Today, I’m reading 2015’s Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy anthology, edited by Joe Hill
I started writing when I first read Harry Potter in middle school. My sixth grade teacher—who, incidentally, happened to be Rick Riordan—indulged my writing habit and read the “manuscript” for my first novel. He told me it sounded like The Sorcerer’s Stone with a female Harry and encouraged me to find my own voice. So I did.
My favorite author is Karen Russell, who is a storytelling sorceress. She writes about girls turning into caterpillars and boys stranded on glaciers and makes it all wondrous and true.
If you come over for tea, I’ll probably bake Thomas Keller’s chocolate chip cookies. With extra chocolate.
